Director Sportif
A free Sauce for Zwift mod: a director sportif in your ear. It reads the pack, the road and the race, and tells you in a word or two what to do now. Advice only: it never presses a button for you.
The meters
Position
What your spot in the group costs you, in watts, against the ideal spot at your speed. Measured at speed too: on a fast descent the ideal spot is 4–6 m back, not on the wheel.
Holding
Watts beyond what keeping your place needs. Its word follows the cause: ease off, moving up, easy.
Pack cost
What a tight, crowded or boxed-in spot costs beyond Zwift's draft.
Blocked
Watts lost pushing into the wheel ahead, and when a pass is stuck alongside a rider.
Passing
Closing on a rider at the speed that gets you held, or a rider creeping up on you.
Road and reserve
Gap and left/right to the wheel, the surface under you, supertuck speed, your FRC.
The calls
- The pack: "gap opening", "go harder", "drop back", "block left", "hold line", "ease off".
- Climbs: "climb in 90", "move up", "hold spot", "steep in 20 for 30", "over top in 15", from your route's own profile.
- Bends: "inside left in 6" when the inside is open and moving over gains ground, "stay close" when you're on the outside.
- The finish: "top ten in 120", "get a wheel", "last wheel, be ready", "dig in", "keep going", power-up timing by name.
- Power-ups: "hold VAN in 25", "AERO now" at the finish; "hold FEATHER in 20", then "FEATHER now" at the steepest part of a climb.
- The race card: "sprint in 70", "sprint line in 25", your own notes for the route.
- The road: "dirt in 15 for 40", "coast" when you're fast enough to supertuck.
- Habits, now and then: "use edge", "sit in", "get in line", "give room".
Each kind of call reaches you as its own chime, your computer's voice, or both. Times are in seconds, never meters. On a bike that gets no draft (a TT bike in a group ride, or a time trial) the pack calls go quiet by themselves.
Record your rides
The Director Sportif can record every ride and race. Bring a recording to the ride report to see what your position cost over the whole ride.
